In an attempt to amuse my co-workers and supervisors at work today, I made a wisecrack that may have backfired. I don't really know, though. If it DID backfire, it wasn't horrible, but just bad enough that no one laughed, and now they all find me a little bit stranger than before.

Here's the setup:

We're having a meeting, wherein we're all looking at the various components of one of our in-progress projects, and a question pops up that no one can answer. The question floats around the table in an I-don't-know.-Do you?-Nope.-Me neither.-Do you know?-Nope.-kind of way for a good five minutes or so, until it came around to me.

I decided to be the funny guy and say this:

"Well, I don't know about you guys, but I think it's a good idea to have weekly meetings like this to pool our ignorance. Is someone taking notes?"

There was a solid five or six seconds of SILENCE.

Then, the person next to me said, "Well, I don't know, either."

Hmm.

No worries. That's really funny. I think the silence was because they didn't get it, not because they were offended.

I guess I am the joke police?

  2. I'm glad YOU liked it, Hilary. At least someone did.

No worries - I've finally convinced myself that I am, regardless of anyone else's interpretation of the things I say, downright hilarious...to me.

  3. Honestly, bro, I prefer reading what you have to say over watching The Office (and_that's_saying something).

I could see something like that in an Office script. But it's just just what you say, but_how_you write about what's said that I love too. When Rolf showed me your blog for the first time last week, uncontrollable laughter followed. So, all this comes down to...thanks for the witticisms!
