If marriage is an institution supported by this country, then it must be made available to all of its citizens – according to the law.

Separation of church and state is, in principle, supposed to prevent a religious institution from contributing to (and in this case, ultimately swaying) government decisions in this country.

I have no problem with faith in God, as it is. I believe that God exists within and without all of us. We love God by loving one another. God does not care what name you prescribe to that behavior, be it Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Voodoo, or Jedi – as long as you continue to love one another. That includes the people you disagree with.

However, if you honestly claim that God does not love someone because they are/do/say/think something that you disagree with, you have just shit all over the same ideals you so fervently claim to uphold.

Since when did you become the voice of God?

So...was any particular form of intolerance the catalyst for this passionate outburst, or are you just generally annoyed with small-mindedness and hypocrisy?

And I REALLY agree: exclusion in the name of religion/god is probably one of my least favorite things in the entire world. God is LOVE, y'all. There shouldn't be any qualifiers or clauses attached to that.

  2. I'm guessing it's the Prop 8 thing in California.

For the record, I'm just sick about it. For more than one reason. I never thought it'd win.

It'll fix with time -- look at the demographics of the voters (Old People voted Yes, young people voted No). But that's not much of a fix right now.

Y'all know there are big protests tomorrow (Saturday) at noon, all over?

    Love,
    Me

  3. Sorry for the ranting -- I was just reading about the high likelihood that Prop 8 passed because of the large African-American voter turnout, and it pissed me off.

I will never understand how such massive hypocrisies can endure. We Americans are nothing if not relentless in expressing our collective intolerance and fear of things we don't try to understand.

This national election, for all intents and purposes, is THE single most important milestone for American civil rights since the Emancipation Proclamation.

And yet, nobody's taken down the old Jim Crow "whites only" signs -- we're just correcting them to read "straights only."

    Hooray for progress.
