So, I think I'm getting a tattoo.

In fact, I'm pretty sure of it.

Julia and I are celebrating our four-year anniversary this coming Friday, and we figured it's a good time to actually go out and get the tattoos we each have been wanting for a good while now.

She already has one. I don't.

Because of that, I've got a nagging fear that I'm going to wuss out, and since I know that Julia won't, there's a real chance I could lose any machismo I once thought I'd earned.

Oh well.

This is what I'm getting:

I think I'll get it on the underside of my left forearm, just above my watch. Julia's getting a more art-deco variation of this design on her back, just below the nape of her neck.

In either case, the design is an old one, and it has meanings in many different cultures. The one I most often associate with it is "endurance." When Julia and I met, I always wore a pendant of a similar design (made of onyx and pewter), so there is a vague bit of romanticky-ness involved.

However...MY version has a secret and completely geeky additional significance:

The exact design you see above actually comes from Star Trek: The Original Series (surprise, surprise), and was used to denote "Security" doorways and computer panels.

F*cking awesome.

You may all laugh at me now.

  2. You just made me snort, Miss Priss.

I'd never have thought of you that way, anyway -- I KNOW there's a high-flyin', Harley-ridin' bad girl in there, just beneath the surface.

I play golf with Ryan, remember?

  3. I LOVE the Star Trek reference. It almost makes you cool. That part of the arm is such a sensitive spot and you are such a wimp. I wanna be there!!!
