This picture has nothing to do with my blog post, but you should all know that this is how I picture me and Tula in my head. Which is which, I don't know, but who doesn't love Muttley?

Well, we're back from camping this weekend, and while I was a somewhat skeptical whine-ass at first, I think we all ended up having a blast. My dad sprained his ankle somehow (maybe stomping through lake mud), but other than that, there were no casualties. We took the dog, and she behaved magnificently - AND she was off her leash for most of the trip. For some reason, however, it's taking both Julia and me a lo-oo-ong time to recuperate. I feel rather listless, but it's nice...

So I'm compensating by learning to cook new stuff! Woo!

I made a dish called "Chicken & 40 Cloves", which is chock full o' garlic and quite possibly the best chicken I have ever had. Peeling 40 cloves of garlic sucks any way you look at it, but the rest is incredibly easy and CHEAP! I think the entire meal cost about 5 bucks.

Tonight I'm making an oven-cooked barbecue brisket and, since it has to cook for several hours, I also learned how to make a traditional Navajo bread called "frybread". It's awesome, and it's really easy, though probably not all that good for you, because it is, ultimately, deep-fried bread (kinda like a donut). I've never made any type of bread or bread-related product before though, so I'm really proud - I successfully made my first dough (and tossed it like a pizza)!

I'm trying to build up enough recipes that Julia and I both REALLY like (to assemble into a family recipe cookbook), because it's fun, dammit.

Now I must go, for there is brisket to baste!

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAAA!
